Firefighters mourned at cathedral

The body of Lt. Charles "Chip" McCarthy is brought into the cathedralTwice in the course of just a few hours on Aug. 28, the lives of two fallen Buffalo firefighters were celebrated at St. Joseph Cathedral in downtown Buffalo.

Lt. Charles "Chip" McCarthy from Rescue 1 and Firefighter Jonathan Croom from Ladder 7 were killed on Monday as they attempted a rescue in a burning convenience store building on Buffalo's East side.  Buffalo Fire Department investigators now say that despite reports of cries for help from inside the building, no body was found.

Seminarians from Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora distributed Holy Communion in front of the cathedral to the masses of men and women who were unable to make it inside for McCarthy's funeral.
