Martin Sheen’s knowledge of Catholic doctrine made him an ideal choice to narrate the Proving Holiness documentary. The hour-long documentary produced by Daybreak TV Productions explains the canonization process, and will air Mon. December 3rd at 9:30 p.m. on WNED Channel 17.
Mr. Sheen learned Catholic morals and the values of hard work at an early age. Sheen has never lost sight of his roots and has kept his humility through all the fame and awards he has achieved. An example of this is "Options Recovery"; a non-profit group founded in 1997 that assists homeless, street, and marginal people get help with addictions. Sheen is honorary chair of this group and has donated the entire stipend from his narration on the Proving Holiness documentary to the program. "Options Recovery" also facilitates a mental health clinic and transitional housing for graduates of the program.
Many know Martin Sheen for his role as fictional President on the show "The West Wing" or for his role as Capt. Willard in the award-winning "Apocalypse Now", but there is much more to the man than awards and acting. He is a man of deep convictions and conscience. "I would basically define success in the personal contentment of having united the will of the spirit to the work of the flesh." *
It helps a small production company like Daybreak to have a recognizable and powerful voice to drive the documentary to a national and international audience. Daybreak producers said working with Sheen was an enjoyable experience. Mr. Sheen was meticulous with pronunciation details and was very generous with his time. All of the funding for this project came from a private foundation whose bylaws require anonymity.
The documentary premiere was on All Saints Day (Nov. 1) at the Montante Center at Canisius College. Distribution begins after the Dec. 3rd airdate.
